How does one become a paid DM?

Gamer Life General Discussion

This is my first time I get to go to Gen-Con, well in a way, cause of Covid-19, it is done online this year. The surprise, people can get paid to DM at the convention. Some Dm's charge 300 dollars a ticket, or 80 dollars a ticket. With the exception of Gen-Con, I've never encountered a paid DM or been one. I've played online on Rolld20, paizo, and 9 different shops hosting D&D with at least 2 or more DMs at each shop, some nearby, others about 100 miles. And at least 3 other DMs that ran games at their houses. I've payed to play D&D at some of those shops (5 dollars), but they money went entirely to the shop, not to the DM. So, where are the paid DMs? Do they just go to various Conventions charging people? Do they live in big cities like New York? And how do they get players to pay them? Or do they already work for WoTC or Paizo and people willingly pay them to run a game cause they are authors of an adventure?
