Our party barbarian is the circus' animal handler. He has the animal (bear) instinct and so he was a natural fit to replace The Great Fortunato. He even put on a bear wrestling act with Bardolph in the first show after the party healed the bear's foot.
When the party found Fortunato's cloak, our barbarian claimed it for himself, citing that it was only right, as he was the new animal handler.
When they later heard a disturbance near Bardolph's wagon they went to investigate. Upon opening the door, Bardolph dove forward flinging his new handler like a rag doll. Then the bear really ripped into him in the most dangerous wrestling match yet.
The party only barely managed to subdue Bardolph, but now I'm left to wonder, "what next?"
Just because the charm will wear off doesn't mean that Bardolph won't still think the new handler was responsible for Fortunato's murder.
How will they ever work together again? How should I, the GM, handle it?

The bear and the player had a previous bonding experience. If there was any trust, it was likely broken by wearing Fortunato's Cloak. I'd resolve this by having the player win the bear's trust back or if the player acts a bit more afraid, I'd even let the bear slowly approach for reconciliation. Consider it a subplot, perhaps.
I'm not sure what exact approach to take. It really depends on the PC

The bear is an animal and consequently not that smart. I would say that the effect of a short term spell will not wipe out the trust built up after months of being fed and trained by his new owner. There may be a some immediate mistrust, and I like Grivenger's idea of winning its trust again, but that shouldn't take too much and will just make a nice RP opportunity.
