Powerful Leap and Dancing Leaf

Rules Discussion

Is there anything preventing the stacking of the skill feat Powerful Leap and the monk feat Dancing Leaf?

Dancing Leaf's effects for High Jump and Long Jump only come into play when you SUCCEED at the check.

Does that mean if I roll a 29 to Long Jump across a 30-foot wide pit, I fall in?

One would think the extra 5 feet would help, but since I didn't beat the DC 30, I don't get the bonus.

How then, would this aspect of the feat ever help you succeed in a high jump or long jump that you wouldn't have already made anyways?

Even if there is no hazard like a pit, you'd need to declare how far you're attempting to jump before you made the check, since Dancing Leaf's effects are dependent on the success or failure of the check. You couldn't simply roll, see how much distance you got, then add 5 feet.

Such an odd mechanic to be sure.

If you have Dancing Leaf and want to jump 30 feet, you don't attempt a DC 30 check, you go for a DC 25. Much easier to succeed and you go the same distance.

The solution is to attempt a 25-foot Long Jump to travel 30 feet.

EDIT: ninja'd
