Can you purposefully fail a lingering performance check so that you can use the inspire courage cantrip without using focus points, and thereby be able to use it with the Repeat a Spell Exploration Activity?

Inspire Courage doesn't use focus points by default, it's a cantrip. Same goes for other composition cantrips like Inspire Competence or Triple Time.

What would be the point? Inspire Courage already lasts 1 round. If you roll a failure on Lingering Composition, it lasts 1 round, you just don't waste the Focus Point that you spent on Lingering Composition.

Lingering performance is a focus spell that can increase the duration of a composition. It's not tied to any specific composition and does not need to be used at all with any composition.

That being said, you can only have one composition going at a time unless you have the 6th level harmonize feat that allows 2 at the cost of an action.
