Is there any point for a vesk vanguard to take Improved Unarmed Strike?

One of my fellow players has decided to take Improved Unarmed Strike for his 3rd-level vesk vanguard.

I'm failing to see how he is deriving any benefit from it, however. What am I missing?

Even at later levels, when it increases the damage of his natural attacks, it is outpaced by his entropic strike damage.

Is there any point at all? Should I discourage him from this path?

Only reason I can see is if the player traded out the Vesk Unarmed racial for the Prehensile Tail and wants the feat for roleplaying.

I took IUS for my 8th level Vesk Vanguard during the Playtest. When I went to recreate that build after COM came out, I couldn't see a good reason to anymore.

Best reason I can think of now is to have a decent non-lethal attack option for when you'd rather subdue an opponent.

He didn't take the alt race trait, and he has a whip for nonlethal damage.
