I'm in the process of character design for a Ferran PC, and have been wondering a few things.

I'm interested in having her use a handcannon for her ranged primary, since that seems to be the closest thing to a sawed-off shotgun I can find. Assuming she uses both hands when shooting it to remove the unwieldy property, would that qualify it for Trick Attack (since she'd be an operative, Double Tap appears to be redundant).

As far as melee goes, she'd just use one knife rather than do all that fancy dual-wielding you see other operatives do.

Would the Starfinder Data Jockey be a good archetype for her to have?

I'm thinking of using the Colonist theme, since her goal in the campaign I'm writing her for is to establish a community of her people on a new planet in the Vast to protect against their possible extinction.

I've never played an operative before, so I'm curious as to if I'm setting myself up for failure by not cheesing every angle here.

First off, yes, you can trick attack with a hand cannon held in 2 hands.

Regarding Data Jockey, the Fast Retrieval ability is generally better for other people than it is for operatives, because of the absurd number of skill ranks operatives are given. Tactical Analysis has been fairly useless to operatives, due to action economy, byt could be used more effectively if Quick Trick is allowed. From an optimization standpoint, I probably wouldn't use that archetype. However, the optimization floor for operatives is extremely high, so an operative with an archetype like that is still entirely viable.
