I don't have much to add except I'm looking for more evidence that maybe the Outer Gods have a part to play. Specifically, Nyarlathotep who takes pleasure in manipulating humans and spreading chaos.
Consider the module Doomsday Dawn, whereby...
And the module was set in 4718 AR. Working backwards, that means a revolution incident occurred in 4606 AR. The exact year of Aroden's demise.
Hmm...

Usually when I think about this I think that Aroden died and his death caused the power of prophecy to break, but what instead prophecy breaking caused the death of Aroden? He acted on prophecy a lot and it defined his life, so if it stopped being reliable he'd be vulnerable.
That could fit for Nyarlathotep better than specifically killing Aroden IMO. If prophecy is broken people won't be able to predict when the great old ones return, meanwhile Nyarlathotep could theoretically take more proactive steps than relying on prophecy to ensure the return. And if nobody is prepared for the return, nobody will stop the return.

To go along with what you said, a couple interesting quotes from the Starfinder core rulebook on Nyarlathotep (page 488):
"It is said that one can see Nyarlathotep’s influence in every major disaster or calamity if one looks hard enough and that he has had a hand in guiding entire civilizations into ruin."
"In any form, the Crawling Chaos works to upend the status quo and cast down the mortal races from the heights of their achievements. As the deity of conspiracies and dangerous secrets, Nyarlathotep engineers the deaths of kings, presidents, and reformers to inexorably guide civilization toward anarchy."
