Untrained skill check Max result 10?

Rules Discussion

I played a PFS session this weekend and the GM told us that the max one could get on an untrained skill check was 10. I am pretty sure that is incorrect and a re-reading of the book gives no indication of any such rule.

Am I missing something?

That might be a hold-over from knowledge checks in first edition. Your untrained skills are not limited to 10 in second edition. You just don't get a proficiency bonus (which becomes very obvious in later levels).

No, that GM was wrong.

As mentioned by JL, it's a holdover from PF1 for skills that required training to use, like knowledge skills.

Though that cap of 10 isn't in PF2, it's not all risk-free attempts anymore either. Critical failures can be costly.

One of the high level playtest skill checks could gain you the wrath of a goddess who would curse you for the remainder of the scenario, and that was in the info gathering stage!

Thanks all
