I guess a good amount of players have been through this AP by now, so I ask you what is better? run the modules as they are written or run tMoF first and then tIS?

In your case, I would suggest running them as written.

Swapping those two does make for a better story, however, it would also force you to rebalance every encounter (and treasure) in both of those adventures.

Reversing them might be a good exercise for you. :)

And, as I did mention, it does make for a tighter story.

I'd enjoy it for sure, but it requires a lot of spare time, which I do not have. My "studying time" starts at 9 p.m., and preparing lessons for the next morning comes first if I care for my job, so...
There is a chance we'll take a break (I'll be a player and not a DM) in a few months, if so I will work at reversing the modules and bother you again :p
