Dropping a bomb in the middle of a Leap?

Howdy! I have a question. Say you are a monk with high athletics, and you just drank a Leaper's Elixir. As I understand it, it's a free action to let go of an item that is in your hand. Would he be able to drop an item halfway through the leap, like a bomb?

Sure, and an enemy can pick it up and throw it at you.

Ah, what is needed to activate the bomb before dropping, so that it would set it off upon landing after being let go?
