How to handle more “loaded” Ancestries in 2e?

Conversions

Looking at some existing Ancestries from 1e, and I’m really struggling to convert those that offered more features inherently. Mostly curious about how to handle something like android or wyrwood (with their construct bonuses), or the rougarou’s shapeshifting.

Any advice?

I'm not sure. One way might be to make those features into feats, but that seems unsatisfactory to me. That could work for things that aren't really the core of the concept of the ancestry. But some features like the flight of a strix is pretty fundamental, so taking it away until feats are given at higher level makes it seem like you've got a watered down version of the ancestry. I personally don't know of a good way of handling this with the way ancestries are set up.

I've been wondering how this might work. There's not much to trade out.

I guess we could see just two ability boosts and one penalty, that would be worth a fair bit.

Less or more limited attribute scores

Ancestral feats with heritage requirements.

uncommon or rare rarities with advice to the GM how to balance them.

Bigger differences to attribute scores.

This said, there is a sad element who will be unhappy unless they get

- No restrictions on ancestry(Race)
- Better features than any other ancestry(race)
- No drawbacks to counter these features/benefits
