How much of an attribute bonus is needed to make difference in skills?

Advice

Sovereign Court

I am looking at a building a character but I'm wondering if anyone has done the analysis on what bonus I need from an attribute to make a skill competitive as it levels.

For a Rogue what Dex is needed to make Acrobatics, Stealth and Thievery? Is a Dex of 16 needed? or is 14 sufficient?

I assume the difference would be small do to Ability Boost at 5th level and beyond making up a lot of room between an starting score of 18 vs 16 but would a 14 fly as "good enough"?

I'm asking because I am eyeing a Str based Ruffian and want to build build and compare to a Dex to dmg Thief build.

Well if you go assurance it doesn't matter at all for the easy stuff. Assurance doesn't use your mod. So if you want to go heavy Str and just a bit of dex to go with the medium armor then that might see you through.

But even then, a +2 to skills is a big deal in that you get a 20% extra chance to hit or crit the DC (and 20% less chance to crit fail). But you are also more likely to success in your athletics and combat maneuvers by boosting your Str so it's not like you are throwing that away. As long as you bump your prof in them as soon as you can you'll do alright.

How/why does +2 give you +20% chance to succeed or crit? Shouldn't that be +10%?

Yeah I think so. Sorry was rushing that post.
