flurry of blows+shurikens and -to hit questions

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

So my group of friends usually play some heavily homebrewed extremely old concoctions of dnd. like 1.5 type stuff.

we are gonna start a campaign using pathfinder tho. and i chose monk. So here is my question/s.

flurry of blows at first level is -1/-1, which im assuming means i just get a -1 penalty to its two attacks. this is useable with shurikens.

my one friend says itd be a horrible idea to use shurikens with flurry of blows cuz id be at something like -8/-8 for trying to hit someone (something to do with two weapon fighting or something). I thought id just get the -1/-1.

how does this work? and whats the answer?

really thought someone would help me out here >.>

You'll take a -4 penalty if you fire into melee and don't have the Precise Shot feat. Also, enemies get +4 AC against your ranged attacks if an ally (or other cover) is between you and them, which is pretty much the same as another -4 to your attack. So you could, under certain circumstances, be looking at the equivalent of a -8 to your attack on top of the -1/-1 from flurry. I'm not certain if that's what your friend was talking about, though.

Do you plan on primarily firing shuriken?

no not really, but i am going out of my way to make a imperfect build and not min/max him. Im pretty sure we are taking liberties with the game rules as well seeing as how we are making psuedo super characters where you mash two classses together and gain all there automatic abilities and bonus feats and such as you level as one clas. so no 2monk/4druid its just 6druidmonk.

by firing into melee you mean when two people are fighting and your trying to hit just the one?

and ya i dont think thats what hes talking about. dont you get negatives at certain ranges as well?

atm my druidmonk at first level has deadly aim, turning my 1d2 dmg shurikens into 3-4 dmg at the expense of another -1 to hit. i just wanted to make sure that in normal circumstances im not stacking stupid negatives to hit.

Yes

-2 for each range increment (10 ft for shuriken) beyond the first. So, no penalties for throwing 'em at the guy 10 ft away, -2 for 15 or 20 ft, -4 total for 25 or 30 ft, etc.
