I am joining a game that I don't know too much of, so this is not something that can really be optimized - nor is it something that really should be optimized, just looking for stuff that's fun and will work. I don't know if there will be dungeon crawling or what the other people will play, for example, but here's what I do know!
We will be starting at level 3 and 3000 gold - not entirely sure how long this game will be or if we can expect to gain levels, but let's assume we might get to level 5 or so. It will be roleplay heavy and seems like there will be plenty of stuff happening out of combat, but there is going to be combat too. No third party stuff. Right now, what little I have heard from potential characters suggests that we don't have many frontline characters and no one probably has much in the way of Knowledge skills, so I thought I could try to fill that in. it'll be fine, probably! There will most likely be a healer. I wanted to play a charisma-based character, so here I am with trying to make an Unchained Summoner, because it is a neat class I have wanted to try. I've never made one before and there's just so many possibilities with this class! I've tried cramming as much information as I can, but a lot of the guides and such are made for the original Summoner class, which is helpful but not the best.
Here's what I know about my character, mechanically:
Summoner
-Half-elf for that sweet evolution point bonus
-Maybe a bit too high-ish int for a Summoner for skill and language purposes, though that's at the expense of dex (+1) and wis: might need some help with saves/initiative?
-Focus on spellcasting/support in combat and Eidolon over Summon Monster, Summon Monster mainly as back-up/utility
Summoner needs help with traits and feats, I can decide on skills and spells. I am taking a drawback so I can have 3 traits, which I could use to fill some holes, but there might also be more interesting traits that might work for a Summoner in particular. Or maybe there's fun stuff that isn't just extra numbers.
Feats are being really difficult. Extra Evolution right at level 1 so I can enjoy the most points? Go the Augment Summoning route if I want to summon the Eidolon to boost it? Maybe even some Craft Wondrous Items in there? So many options and I'm not sure how many levels this character is going to be able to gain for more feat slots, so I'm afraid of wasting them.
Eidolon
-Quadruped, probably gonna work towards that claws/pounce idea, but Unchained Eidolons have very little help in the guide department, I'm afraid. Low levels are a struggle in particular when the stuff that makes it work can only be gained at higher levels. I am new to this class and pretty shy when it comes to mechanics and crunch, so feel free to treat me like I'm five. I do want it to become Large, if we get that far!
-Subtype open, as long as it has quadruped. I was thinking of pyschopomp, but maybe something else would be better?
-Should be able to be some sort of a frontline fighter, but what kind? Just pure damage with natural attacks? More tanky? Some fancy moves? I must admit that I have not played a fighter-type character in Pathfinder yet, so I don't know what is effective.
-Won't be pure pure combat only, as I want it to have some wis and wis skills. Eidolon's the muscle and wise, summoner's the talky and smart (but not so wise)! They should be a fun pair.
I am completely lost on the feats. Do I just try building it like any strength-based punchy guy? Power attack to start with, or something? Maybe there are some tricks I should know about?
This is also the first time I have really had any money to work with, so if you have equipment/item suggestions, I'd love to hear it!
