Rules Questions

1) Can you use Harrying Fire as a Gunner aboard a starship?

2) Can the Captain of a starship use Encourage to grant a +2 to a Gunner's next attack roll? The text for Encourage specifically says "... using the same Skill". And Gunnery isn't a skill... but may use the Gunner's Piloting ranks, so I'm not sure where this one falls.

3) Can Sentient Robotic Organisms (SROs) communicate with a Lashunta via their limited telepathy? As a technological construct they are immune to Mind-Affecting abilities, but "mind-affecting" does not appear on the Lashunta page for Limited Telepathy.... but the Telepathy spell is mind-affecting.

1 no.

2 yes.

3 yes. SROs do not have construct immunities, they have the trait Robotic, and they are not immune to mind affecting.

So even though an SRO is a "construct", they do not have "construct immunities"?

They do not. Just like borais do not have full on Undead Immunities and khizaars don't have full on Plant Immunities. In the SRO's case, they still get enough that it's quite possibly the most powerful racial trait anyone possesses, but they don't get even more immunities on top of the trait.

Robotic: SROs are immune to bleed, disease, death effects, poison, nonlethal damage, and sleep effects unless those effects specify they affect constructs. SROs can be affected by effects or spells that normally target only humanoids, but receive a +4 racial bonus to saving throws against such effects. SROs can eat and drink, though they don’t need to, and they must recharge their internal batteries by entering an off-line mode that is similar to sleep for 8 hours every day. SROs do not breathe or suffer the normal environmental effects of being in a vacuum.

For player races you only get the traits and abilities that are specifically called out in the gray Racial Traits box where the race is defined. Construct immunities are monster rules and don't apply to PCs, even if they have the construct type.

A similar principle was clarified in an FAQ.

Thank you both very much for your guidance. I appreciate it!
