Aasimar / Tiefling size questions.

Rules Questions

Got a question for you fine (probably not aberrations) folks.

So, in the description for both Aasimar and Tieflings, it says that they retain size from whatever race they're from, and nothing else. It also specifies that the races they're from must be humanoids.

Normally I assume people think "Cool, I can be a small caster class and reap them small bennies without strength penalties or 20' speed!"

I however, got bored and looked at the list of humanoids. Imagine my surprise when I find that giants are Humanoid (Giant)! (Used to 3.5 where Giant was it's own type)

RAW, can Aasimar and Tieflings be Large/Huge/Gargantuan? I know there'd be no strength bonus, just basically penalties to attack, stealth, and AC, with minor buffs to CMB and CMD and a bonus to break things and intimidate people. Carrying capacity too I guess.

So tell me, fellow forumites, doth mine idea work?

Rulewise they are medium.

Otherwise consult with your GM if you want a larger humanoid race as parentrace with the celestial or fiendish intercourse, then I'd say, yeah, go for it buddy!

Only in PFS play, which made a specific restriction. Otherwise if they derive from a non-medium size mortal race, they retain that size class.

Typically they come from human stock, but they can come from other races as well.

Talk to your GM about what is thematically appropriate and what they will allow.

Alright, good stuff. I doubt I'll try for anything above large, but it's good to know it's an option.
