I didn't see another thread for this, so here goes....
I thought this was a great re-imagining of the story. Some great acting and generally spooky s~@+ going down. And lots of subtle creepy s+@@. There was even an article about the number of ghosts people probably missed in various scenes. Some of them I had caught, many I missed.
I hear it's getting a lot of good commentary, so here's hoping it'll be enough to order a second season. I'd be interested to see them go further into the history of the house and it's many spirits.

Netflix Renews ‘The Haunting Of Hill House’ As An Anthology With An All New Story, Setting, And Name
I like where they're going with this. The Haunting of Bly Manor.

This show was what is missing in horror: genuine sorrow. The horror of just being human, being trapped inside yourself. The lies we tell ourselves to cope with the absolute nightmare of real life. Olivia Crain said it best: the outside world is the horror.
I just rewatched parts of this last night and I was bawling just the same as that first night that I stayed up ALL NIGHT to binge the entire season 1. Every single character is a tragedy, a car crash in slow motion. Even the titular house is just a big mindless animal, seemingly unaware of how evil and horrible it is. It needs to feed, so it found a means of predation to acquire its food, nothing more.
And yet there is Nell, at the end in the Red Room. I'm tearing up just thinking about her monologue to her siblings. The nature of time, and forgiveness... so much beauty in a dark, moldy chamber.
The whole thing is a macabre masterpiece. No matter how dark it is, no matter how horrible, I want to go back to Hill House over and over.
