Life Link Oracle Sleeping

Rules Questions

In our encounter this weekend, my party got attacked while we were sleeping. I play a Pei Zen Life Oracle with life link. I stated that I would have healed a party member after waking up during my turn. The GM stated that I would not have the life links up because I was sleeping. The definition of life link states that the link exists until we move too far apart, the target dies or I die. I tried to explain that to him but he stated that this type of magic would need to be established each day. I've never had to state before that I was creating my links daily but we've never been attacked at night.

What is the proper ruling on life link? I tried to respectfully disagree but he stated he wouldn't even discuss it with me. I will play by his ruling, but I didn't know the official stance on this ability.

Thanks in advance.

Was this organized play or a home game? And I strongly doubt you'll get a truly official ruling.

Unless there's a rule somewhere obscure that turns abilities off when you sleep, I don't see Link Links severing over any amount of time. While it's not unreasonable to think that people traveling together will, at some point in the day, move more than 110 - 300 ft away from each other, that should have been something the GM already discussed with you. It seems reasonable to me that your character would automatically refresh the links when their allies came back into range if nothing else is going on, if that's how the link broke.

We're playing Shattered Star campaign, not sure if you would count that as home play or organized play. I understand if we moved 110-300 feet away, but we were all on the same boat owned by halflings. It's not a large boat, it's only 40 feet from the water to the top of the boat.

It's not a matter of leaving the range. My question is on the act of sleeping. Would that sever the ties of the life link? The only source I have is d20pfsrd so if something else states something different, I just want to make sure I have the correct understanding of the ability.

Unless you are playing in game setup by PFS it is a home game. In a home game the GM is the ultimate authority and even if you got an official ruling he would not be bound by it.

This is a Rules Question forum post, so while Rule Zero is always in play, it's not terribly useful as a response unless the text in question specifically appeals to Rule Zero.

This bond continues until the bonded creature dies, you die, the distance between you and the other creature exceeds medium range, or you end it as an immediate action (if you have multiple bonds active, you may end as many as you want as part of the same immediate action).

Seems pretty clear. Sleeping has no effect on a life link. It remains until the oracle spends an action to end it or conditions cause it to end. It isn't a daily thing at all.
