What's the future have in store for the module subscription?

The last I had heard, modules were on the back burner for awhile. But awhile has come and gone, and I miss my module goodness arriving in my mailbox. Paizo has always produced some great adventures and I hope that this will continue. I know modules aren't huge financial successes, but for me, they perfectly meet my needs as a GM that's working full time in health care and wants to have a premade adventure ready to go when I'm off to run with friends. I also enjoy the shorter length of story compared to AP's because that kind of time commitment isn't possible.

So what do you say? Can we get a little mailbox love? I would be ever so grateful to you.

Sincerely,

Ellestil

Any idea if this is the last module for PF1?

AFAIK there's been no formal statement, but I will be astonished if there's another PF1 module. Modules require months of lead time, and nothing has been announced. If they announced one today, it would come out well into next year, with just a few months left before the PF2 rollout. I suppose it's remotely possible that they have another module lined up and ready to go after CoN, but if so, they haven't said a word about it. And CoN was a year late, which makes it even less likely there's another one in the hopper. So, right now it looks like CoN is the end of the line.

Will there be PF2 modules? Maybe. Nobody knows. But if yes, then obviously that won't happen until after PF2 has rolled out next August. The PF1 module line, though? is probably off to the big farm upstate where it can run and play with its friends Planet Stories, RPG Superstar, and Pathfinder Tales.

FWIW, there's still a lot of good 3PP stuff out there.

Well if they drop modules, I guess it would leave an opening for 3PP's to fill. Hopefully, they won't though. In our local Con (Megacon in Orlando), we usually have an all day Pathfinder module slot. This is great because it allows us to play a full day story, and also get PFS credit for it. Hopefully that's not going away, since scenarios are too short and AP's are too long.

Okay, I just checked with James Jacobs. He confirms right over here that CoN will be the last module for PF1. There will still be scenarios and APs.

Asked a followup question on whether there will be subscription modules for PF2. James Jacob's response was, "This isn't the right thread or the right time to reveal product plans for the new edition."

Cradle of Night will be the first module in over two years -- Seers of the Drowned City came out in November 2016. There won't be another module until next August at the very earliest. Meanwhile, Starfinder hasn't bothered with modules at all. Connect those dots as you will. Speaking only for myself, I don't think it looks too hopeful.

Modules are one of my favorite products we publish, and I would LOVE to publish them more frequently going forward, but I'm just one voice. If folks want to see more modules, let us know by saying so all over the place—here, on our Facebook page, to us in person in conventions, by giving existing modules you like good reviews, and by purchasing the ones you want!

James makes a good point. If you want modules, then (1) say so, and (2) buy modules.

For the record, former module subscriber here -- and I stopped because I was away from gaming for a couple of years, not because of issues with the modules. The quality has generally been solid.

I own nearly all the modules made by paizo. I love using them and playing in them. For me they are the perfect position of an ongoing story that is longer than a scenario, but not requiring 6 months to a year or more to complete.

It also prevents burnout that can occur during campaign stories, and illicits more investment in a story than a scenario. For me at least it is the perfect goldilocks size.

It's the collaborative storytelling that makes the game shine, and the module is an important tool to any rpg for promoting that process. Especially for time constrained GM's.

So if you need me to say it I will, please don't stop making modules. They are important in so many ways.

I love using modules, but normally my focus are on newer groups (If it is going to be a longer campaign we'd use an AP). So, mostly I enjoy modules that are levels 1-6, with maybe a level 7 in there. Anything higher and normally we'd have a campaign going on already.

I enjoy modules, but if they do get dropped I'd probably just stick more with playing the first two entries to APs and modifying them to be able to end with a final conclusion rather than leading to another chapter of the AP.

I love the module line! I don't believe ill be following into 2nd edition though from what I've seen so far. So.....time to cancel my module subscription I guess.(

Yeah. I feel about the same. I'm going to have to hand convert everything to first edition from here on out, so a module will have to have an amazing premise for me to even consider looking at it.

I love modules
