I'm not 100% understanding how to apply computers rules on pages 214-217 or so, to Starship computers. One of my players would like to add a Firewall module to their ship computer. Their question was "does one Firewall protect our entire system?"
My initial answer is "No," because the Firewall rules indicate you need one firewall per module. But now I'm a little confused, because all they have is a Mk 1 tetrinode computer, which can add +1 to up to four items. There's no mention of Modules at all. Does a standard ship computer consist of only one Module? And if so, how does one pay a 20% purchase price to get a Firewall for it, when the computer cost is in BP?

nodes don't matter, on page 294 starship's computers tier equals 1/2 it's tier, and no modules would be like data storage , life support , communications, PC and engine control , weapons systems ect. ...they should try to stick to security system starship section for most their starship computer upgrades ...but i see no reason the can't pay to upgrade the ships computer the normal way (based of its current tier as long as they pay the difference when it goes up) ....and for the most part ships can't be hacked and controlled ...you need a ICM to control it and that is a completely secure link between the ship its installed in and one computer it is installed in....(ships are very hard to hack and that is intentional, for root access on a tier 4 to get at secured data or manipulate a module you need a 49)..the doors are a probably bit easier unless they get biometric locks who's rules don't make sense because it says you need 20 plus 1+1/2 x tier so on a 8th tier ship that's a 32(and get harder as you go up relatively speaking) but it also says anyone who gain access to system can update them and that's a 29 (tier 4 comp) (basic access doesn't let you do much usually ... it's like guest mode) also nothing really explaining what level of door that is for engineering(disable device) but probably dc 40 .........there, i think I answered you question....then rambled on answering more questions no one asked ...hope it helped
