Custom item, kinetic cover as an immediate action

Homebrew and House Rules

Alright, where to begin, I'm trying to design an item for kinetisict to use kinetic cover as an immediate action

For those unfamiliar, kinetic cover allows one side of one square to provide total cover from that direction, the cover itself is extremely fragile, and will usually stop 1 attack from a cr appropriate monster, or even a weaker add on, but it is very easily bypassed with even a five foot step, possibly blocking nothing at all
this ability is at-will, as it has no burn cost, but requires a standard action, and is usually not worth using in combat (you set up a wall, 5 foot step, and they get a full attack, you could use it for ranged enemise perhaps, but that's about it) even as a swift action, it's value would be questionable

If able to be used as an immediate action, kinetic cover could block 1 attack a turn, for the kinetisict or an ally, this is a very powerful ability, but I don't think so game breaking as to be impossible, perhaps limited to 3 times a day, but not impossible, the real question here is cost, as there is NO precedent of immediate action magic items

A couple of spells to use as reference however are
stone shield (level 1 imediete action, provides cover NOT total cover)
And emergency force sphere (level 4 immdieate action, blocks spell and attacks from all directions, and is incredibly durable)

Kinetic cover as an immediate action would probably be akin to a second level spell effect (using the 2 above as reference points) but at will, that's the benefit of being a kinetisict however, and there are tradeoffs with the lack of limits

So how would you make it/price it?

the goal here is not to game the system, but create a fun/balanced item for kinetisicts, requiring that they spend a utility talent to use, but then get something interesting and worthwhile out of it.

(Remember in custom magic items, you can get a 30% discount for an item requiring a certain class feature to use, but again, these are guidleines not rules)

I think it's going to be hard to balance this item. Immediate total cover is really strong, even at level 20. It makes you utterly immune to many spells. I think you are only considering it for the a single melee/ranged attack blocker, but that's not nearly the actual power of that ability.

As such, I'm not sure any flat cost could justify it. Maybe you could get away with making it something like a +3 armor enchantment, so that it gets more expensive later in the game (since you'd presumably want some better +X on the armor too), but I'd be wary of that too.

On top of that, Kineticists are largely not dependent on equipment, so they probably have more money to spread around. It feels like this would be a must have item for any of them... which is usually a bad sign.

There are a lot of immediate action magic items, but none of them that unconditionally stop an attack. An example is the jinx eater's shirt. It has only 1 ability. And that ability is to, once a day, stop a single kind of effect (a hex), and even that has a basically 50/50 chance of working. And it's 22k. Your proposed item has that ability (since a hex is targeted, putting a wall between you would negate it), it can do it 3 times as often, and it works on way more kinds of things. So even at 100,000 gp, your item is a steal.

I probably wouldn't make this item, at any price... there is a reason get out of jail free items don't exist.

Making it a move or even a swift would probably be ok. Or even a "as a free action on your turn". But, in my opinion, immediate is just too strong.

While it may be strong against casters, there are still plenty of speell that are usable that would be unhindered, (cast fireball to the side, and kinetic cover isnt going to stop it)

Yet some of those same casters have asscess to emergency force sphere, which will stop that fireball, disintegrate, ect. For likely at least a turn or 2, from all directions while they buff themselves, all this, as an immediate action, multiple times a day (at least 4 possible through base spells, extra for high ability score modifiers, and pearls of power)

So There are already stronger effects, and yes kinetisicts have a lot of money to through around, mostly because there is nothing for them to buy beyond the big 6...

So the question I asked is not IF, as our group already agrees it should be possible, we are simply seeking advice in how to fairly price it
