Is there a way that the forums can be split, one set of forums for people who have actually played, and another set for therory-crafters? It would be nice if I'm looking for what people think of certain classes or ancestries if I could limit my searches only to people who actually have played them or seen them in action.

Even if they did split them there's nothing stopping people from crossposting, if you're interested in a specific instance you'd be better off making a thread and just asking for people who have actually played to respond.

How would you be able to tell the difference? Would people from the 'actual play' forum be required to explain what they find fun before being allowed to declare a class fun, or give their average dice rolls so people can see whether their thoughts on whether a class was powerful or weak wasn't informed by rolling a standard deviation above or below the mean?

What makes you think you can tell the difference now?

It's also not a black and white line. I've built and run mock combat with every 1st level class except monk (honestly never cared for them, likely never will) and gotten a sense for how they handle in combat at 1st level. This is much closer to playtesting than theory-crafting, but it's not the same as a real table with other players.

As much as the idea of separating the two sounds nice, it would never work. As others have mentioned there would be no way to enforce it, and you would have a lot of people really upset at being "left out" and they would say Paizo is trying to silence them.

But, yeah, I often want one or the other.
