I am in the habit of editing my posts to:
- correct spelling mistakes
- rephrase things to make them clearer (I am not native English speaker, so that really common for me)
- adding citations of other player post beside the initial one and replies to those (if those citations and replies are about the same argument)
Way too often when I save after modifying a post I get the message "you have backtracked too far" with some further text about backtracking 30 or more times.
All the changes I have typed are lost, sometime several minutes of "work".
Generally it happen if someone has posted after my original post while I was writing, but that isn't always true and it is very annoying.
It is possible to correct that problem?

We've always had a timeout if one takes too long to post, the message just changed. There is an older thread about this that discusses this.
What I've noticed recently is sometimes the "backtrack" message pops up really quickly -- like, the timeout used to only happen if it took you five or more minutes to edit a post (often happened to me when I was rolling dice in a pbp and then editing to respond to the results) -- but it now sometimes happens in seconds, as in a quick edit to add a comma. The frequency of this occurring has been of the last month or so.
As a habitual post editor I recommend always copying your text (Ctrl A and then Ctrl C) before hitting "submit" so if you hit the backtrack problem, you just repaste the post and submit again.
