Tetsubo wielding Warpriest of Yamatsumi

Advice

Grand Lodge

I've always really liked the Tetsubo as a weapon...I own one in real life, and I've used one in full contact fighting in the SCA. I've been wanting to make a character who uses one, and I sat down this evening and wrote up a game plan for one. Thought I would come here and share it, ask if anyone sees any mistakes, or ways to improve it.

The build is a standard PFS legal build, using a 20 point buy, and only official Paizo materials.

The idea is to be able to get in someones face and stay there with the Step Up chain, smash things with Sunder, and use the Warpriest sacred weapon ability to increase the enchantment on his Tetsubo to include the Thundering enchantment, for even bigger, scarier, crits.
(8d8+3d8 sonic+112 un-buffed (+132 with Divine Power up) at level 12 if my math is correct) Non crits aren't too shabby either, 2d8+28 or +33 with Divine Power up, with 3 attacks at +25/+25/+20

Why are your Iteratives not -5/-10?

The tetsubo is a great weapon. I have a Yamatsumi worshipping Bloodrager.

Otherwise looks pretty straightforward. Hitpoints would be my only concern, since your FCB is going elsewhere. I’d at least try to fit in the Ioun Stone for +2 CON. Fervor for self healing is a nice option to have, but it doesn’t scale as fast as lay on hands, and it’s more valuable for spells. Plus you don’t get heroic defiance, and you can’t swift heal if you’re unconscious.

Divine Power gives an extra attack at your highest attack bonus, similar to the way Haste works. Which is why there is no -10 attack. Warpriests are only a 2/3 BAB class, so only one iterative attack by level 12.

I was a little concerned about HP as well, which is why I started at a 14 con. Divine Power will give me 1 temp HP per caster level, which will help a little as well. I did leave plenty of wiggle room for items in my plan, so the Ioun Stone is a good idea to help that even further.

Scarab Sages

Ah, I read it as Divine Favor. That explains things. Yeah, I’d still recommend the Ioun Stone. Most of my melee characters start with a 14 CON plus FCB HPs, plus eventually a +2 bump to CON. I even used a boon to get my Dhampir to a 14 starting con despite a penalty, and it saved him from death from a crit. I’ve never regretted it.

Otherwise it looks good.

One thing that bothers me: "Thundering enchantment, for even bigger, scarier, crits." First, if you confirm a crit, the target should be dead. Second, this is about the worst weapon enchantment when it comes to dealing damage! Serious, less then 5% chance to deal 13.5 average damage equals <0.7 damage per hit. +1 enchantment improves the damage alone by 1.

Also, the average CR12 monster has 159 HP, a confirmed crit with Divine Power up deal an average of 160 damage, so unless you roll poorly and your other two attacks miss and no one else did any damage to the target, Thundering does nothing against most enemies.

Can always just use the Sacred Weapon to give it a flat bonus...I just liked the idea of hitting so hard it causes thunder :)
