Computers with Control Module [Let's make a toaster]

Sq33k reporting! I need some help figuring out computers!
From what I understand I can purchase a computer with a complex control module for an increase in price of +10% of what it's controlling. I'd like it to control a profession(chef) tool kit, which costs 20 credits. So a tier 1 computer would cost 50 credits + 10%(2) for a final price of 52 credits. This isn't what I'm too confused on though. What I'm trying to figure out is if computers have skill ranks when the operate on their own.

"When making its own check, the computer is assumed to have an attack bonus equal to its tier, proficiency with any weapon it controls, and a total skill bonus equal to 2-1/2 × its tier"

So a computer of Tier 1 controlling a Profession(Cook) Tool Kit should have a bonus to the skill when making it's own check of 2.5xTier (+2), and an additional +4 added on top of that correct? That would make a neat little +6 bonus to skill checks of profession(Cook), but does it count as ranks for the purpose of crafting items? I can't seem to find any rules stating that they do, but if computers don't have any ranks then can they craft things on their own, or are all computers that manufacture things in Starfinder run by people who simply control the computers (offering the computers their skill ranks).

So if anyone can come up with some answers while I scour my core rulebook, or have some other sample computers that might be able to craft some food with profession(cook) that would be awesome!

My opinion without digging into the books is the number of ranks that the computer would have would be the tier. So a Tier 1 computer has 1 rank, Tier 2 has 2 ranks, etc.

Just my gut feeling.

That's what I might assume as well, but I couldn't find anything to support that. I'll have to dig through my book when I get home. If it is based on tier that would be great, but you'll never have very fast crafting computers due to not getting the 10 ranks more then the required for a 1/4 time bonus. Which would be unfortunate. You'd think computer controlled things would be pretty beast at churning out that yummy caramelized bread.

Another thing I was thinking of was that using a computer to actually craft something out of UBP would certainly take time, but maybe if it was like a microwave sort of object just warming up food might fall under the basic functions of the computer. Not sure though.

Whether you knew it or not you posted the answer to your own question. The computer has a bonus on skill checks made with it's modules equal to 2.5 times it's tier. not very impressive at low levels, but for stronger computers than can definitely be pretty impressive, guess that explains why higher end computers get so dang expensive.

The problem is the bonus on checks does not equal the ranks on the check. The bonus would be with the equivalent of your skill focus, ranks, ability modifies, class bonus, and any other misc bonus that is added in. However, now that I actually looked it up and see that there's only 10 tiers of computers, I'd say Tier*2 is the number of actual ranks in the skill. The 1/2 bonus would be their ability mod, etc.

AGAIN it's not implicitly stated that this is true, but a gut check makes this feel correct to me.

I would guess that they should have ranks equal to their item level ie tier*2.

This would be my guess as well.
