Thistletop Epic Fail

Rise of the Runelords

Hi all
looking for a creative solution to a mess the PCs have gotten themselves into. In their second attack trying to sneak under the bridge to Thistletop, they find themselves clinging to a rock in the ocean near the bridge. Gogmurt survived, as well as Erylium, so Thistletop is aware of the PCs, but as of yet have not spotted the PCs in their rather vulnerable position. It's night, raining, stormy.
These are not experienced players, and they probly need some help. There are a couple NPCs in the party. Also, Erylium fled to Nualia and will be returning to Thistletop after breaking Tsuto out of jail.

I can give more details if you need em

I'd send Shalelu around to help them. She's an experienced goblin hunter, so she'll be invaluable to the party. A 6th level ranger at this point might make some fights trivial, so you might want to depower her. I'd heard she had a lower level in the original "Burnt Offerings," does anyone have a link?

One other thing: Erylium is described as having agoraphobia due to her millennia trapped in the Catacombs of Wrath. Personally, I wouldn't have had her reconnoiter with Nualia, since I don't think she'd want to leave her kingdom due to crippling fear masquerading as pride.

You could always have them encounter the secret entrance below the water at the front of Thistletop, it leads into the room with the giant crab. If you want to just throw the party a bone then depower/remove the crab and toss a few healing items into the loot pile.

You could assume they're currently at high tide and let them scamper to safety through shallower water at low tide. Perhaps combine that with Movin's idea about the crab cave.

You could also just have them not be noticed. They'd probably think the Bunyip would eat anyone by the ocean.

That's a great idea, Tangent. And at last, the supremely obvious ambiguous death works in the party's favor!

"Do you think the longshankses are dead?"

"Nobody could survive a fall like that! I go tell Warchief good news!"

thx all

looks like they managed to climb into the opening in the 1st dungeon lvl....I forgot about the opening with the crab....that was kinda dumb of me :(

now the pcs are barricaded in the jail, with everyone in thistletop aware of them. They've managed to kill a few important bad guys (2 of the hounds, a buncha goblins, and the mercenary. The goblins and longshanks have decided to wait them out. We'll see how things go...

The crab was out looking for food. :D

Dotting for future counsel as I fear my players will face similar disaster (see Burnt Offerings threat).

Ruyan.
