Hi. I just turned 50, but I don’t feel like it. I’ve been interested in D&D since the first edition, and I’ve kept up with each edition since (except 4th), collecting Player’s Handbooks, creating characters, and reading forums, but I’ve never actually played much. Because of that, I think I’m still a newbie in many ways, and I’d like to do something about that. I’d like to join a small, local group of mature, patient players for a mix of roleplaying and action, with characters who start at 1st level and work their way up. So what kind of player am I and what kind of game am I looking for? I like story and detail, exploration and discovery, problem-solving and yes, fast-paced combat. I try to keep up with the rules. I prepare ahead of time. I try to take the game more-or-less seriously, like a drama rather than a comedy, and I like to get things done. Of course silliness happens sometimes, but most of the time I play it straight, and I like groups who work together. I’m hoping to find a game to play for a few hours every other Saturday night. Is there a group out there for me…near me…when I’m available? If so, please reply, or message me. It's time to find out what this game is all about. Thanks!

Similar story here, I'm 52 and playing since 1st edition, and am currently in Flower Mound. A game every other week is, unfortunately something I can't commit to; my kids are heavily into sports (soccer, water polo), so weekend time can be very difficult to come by, and I'd hate to disappoint by committing to something and then having to bail.
What I would be down for is a less-frequent-but-longer-duration game. Say, every other month but for 6 or 8 hours, ideally with rotating DMs. By scheduling in advance I'm more likely to be able to make sessions.
It doesn't seem like North Texas is really fertile ground for players like us looking for a face-to-face game, but I am interested if there any enough other players. Lacking the face-to-face opportunities, I have been DMing a couple of games online-- one for (gulp!) 15 years, and another for two, so they aren't games that are likely to disappear. If you are looking to flex your RP muscles a bit, I actually happen to have an opening in the latter game. We've lost our cleric, so I am looking for a replacement player to play a healer type. The party is currently 3rd level, and the game is the classic Savage Tide adventure path. The game is running under 3.5 rules, and we happen to play using the Yahoo Group boards.
So, if we can scrounge up more people for face-to-face, I am tentatively interested, and in you want to try PBeM/PbP in the meantime let's talk.
