So, I was kicking around a few ideas for characters, when I saw that the prophets of Kalistrade were still kicking around in Starfinder (at least, according to the crafting weapon infusion.) and that gave me an idea for a character, but I’m not sure if I have the lore right. Now, I wasn’t really into the prophets before, but I kind of like the idea I’ve come up with.
1) Can you be kicked out of the prophets? If you break one of their rules (touching someone without gloves, or worshiping a deity, giving to charity) can you be, for lack of a better term, ‘excommunicated?’
2) Anyone know if the BlackJackets (mercenary league) are still around? Are they technically Kalistrocrats?
3) Do Kalistrocrats have an apprentice system or something? How does one learn to Kalistrocrat? I know they hire servents, but could someone be a bodyguard to a higher ranking Prophet in return for learning how to Kalistrocrat?

Sorry - no info to answer your questions, though I'll be curious to see if any answers show up.
Just wanted to pop in & say that I'm playing a Kalistrocrat as one of my PCs. He's a witchwyrd Icon (named Cosmo Stello), a comedian by trade, who travels the spaceways acting as a frontman for NanoKleen
"When it Absatively, Posilutely has to be clean, use Nano-Kleen."

Full disclosure, I actually don’t like the Kalistrocrats. Their philosophy is dangerously close to some real world politics/philosophy that I just. . . Viscerally disagree with on a deeply personal level. But that’s neither here nor there. And I don’t begrudge anyone for having different beliefs.
I was thinking about making a Ysoki who got kicked out of the Prophets, and has to adjust to things like charity and spirituality (seeing as the prophets eschew charity and anything other than the pursuit of money). So I was wondering if that was possible/what it would take. I know that if one doesn’t follow the prophecies they can’t climb the social Kalistrocrat ladder, but can they be hedged out of the organization altogether?

I have a lot of non-canonical (yet) lore in mind for the Prophecies of Kalistrade. One day it'll hopefully see print, but it's certainly something that I've been a champion of internally. Most of that lore is based on exactly how the Prophecies work in a setting where prophecy is broken...
As for advancing in the hierarchy, I'd say that it's less of a "you're in / out" and more of a situation where if you break Rule X/Y/Z then your standing within the organization is adversely affected. There's a lot more to that, but I think that it takes something truly heretical (in the eyes of the Prophecies) to get booted off the ladder entirely.

Wow, thanks for responding to my post. It means a lot that someone from the development team will stop and drop his two cents on my silly character concept.
My idea for a character is that he as a Ysoki signs up to bodyguard a Kalistrocrat. The terms of his employment are that the prophet will procude him room and board, and that the Ysoki can learn the basics of the prophecies from him over the year. If he makes it through the year while following all the tenants, he gets a bonus of a stack of credits (commencerste with what he has earned).
Unfortunately the Kalistrocrat is rather unscroupulus, (leaning LE) and looks to get money by any means, even if it goes contrary to the ‘intent’ of the prophecies (but not the word). So, shortly before the Ysoki’s time is up, he gets into a fight protecting his boss and goes down, and a passing good samaratin provides first aid. Since he has ‘touched’ (was touched by) someone without wearing those gloves, the Prophet sees this as an oppertunity to save that end-of-contract bonus and voids the contract, leaving the Ysoki on death’s door and destitute. Since he is so much higher on the social ladder, he knows that if the Ysoki raises a stink about it, he can use his position and influence to throw him under the bus.
I realize not all Kalistrocrats would be like the one in my story, just wondering if something like that could happen. Basically one member using the power and prestige he’s accumulated to squash lower-level inductees for mild monetary gain. I’m sure if the others found out what he was doing, he’d lose standing, but it’s worked out for him so far.
Thanks again so much for responding. I really appreciate your insight.
