My highest level society character is currently a level 8 witch (time patron.
Outside of society, the value of a +1 mithril buckler as a shield almost any caster can get away with was recently pointed out to me.
As a witch, in PFS, is this allowed? It's outside my normal thinking as an witch, but seems so much cheaper than a ring of force shield

A buckler is defined as metal, so it works.
And, no, a darkwood buckler is really a light wooden shield, as a holdover from a previous edition.
But also consider a caster’s shield. At least for a little extra utility that is. There is a greater version that can take a level 5 spell, too.
Does anyone know I’d it affects that scroll’s cost in PFS? If so, a greater caster’s shield with breath of life might be an amazing investment.

The problem with that is that it still has spell failiure chance...

Up until this thread came about, I never even considered mithril shields to be cost-effective (darkwood shields served most needs). Paying that premium for one is definitely an option for a class that can use it (there are still, after all, classes that cannot use shields)

A mithral buckler has 2 big advantages over a darkwood buckler.
First, is that a mithral buckler is actually a buckler while the darkwood buckler is a light shield, so your hand is still free.
Second, is that a mithral buckler has no spell failure chance while a darkwood buckler has a 5% spell failure chance.
Both of the above, combined with no armor check penalty, make this item ideal for arcane casters.
