How useful / needed is a technomancer for the ap?

We recently lost our technomancer due to RL issues and I was wondering if I should switch take their place. Our current party is a human star shaman, a human operative, ysoki droid mechanic and me a dragonkin solarian.


Assuming you aren't missing any starship combat roles, and either the operative or the mechanic (or somebody) has solid computer skill and a hacking kit, I don't think there is any reason to switch. You likely need the DPR of the Solarian more.

Agreed, assuming you have the basic skills covered you should do fine. Monster identification, ship crew actions, etc.

Although the Technomancer spells are nice, I haven’t seen a situation where they were necessary.
