Ezren's weapon? Quarterstaff or Rod?

So.. all of the character sheets and the Wizard equipment list always refer to a Quarter Staff.
But the weapon Ezren is carrying in all the pictures of him is actually a Rod. (See the Iconic Equipment Card pack)

All the material I have read doesnt equate a Rod with a Quarterstaff.

So what gives?

Because Paizo artists exercise some degree of artistic license?

Rods *can* function as weapons:

But you're right, it's still not a quarterstaff.

The NPC Codex stat blocks on the SRD list his bludgeoning weapon as being a cane with the note to treat it as a club. The cane is later enhanced to also function as a rod of thunder and lightning.
