(Hello all. First-time poster.)
I'd like any advice regarding a choice of race (monster or human) to use in my Barbarian's backstory.
The campaign is the Kingmaker AP, starting at 6th level, with the GM making alterations to the inital published adventure. PC's can be from anywhere in Brevoy. My character is from a uniquely blended "Wolf Clan" of mixed Kellid/Ulfen heritage, with deep connections to nature (and their totem animal, naturally).
Despite it being a massive cliche, I wanted the character to be the sole survivor of a slaughtered Clan and kept as a slave for years. I'm setting the Clan in the Gronzi Forest. Initially, the GM had thought I would be in Western Brevoy, near the Golushkin Mountains, and asked me to be taken by Gnolls. After further consultation, Gronzi seemed far more appropriate to me.
Can anyone suggest any possible monsters, races, or setting-appropriate groups (spoiler-free, if possible) that would not only be prepared to wipe out a Clan of 120-ish Barbarians (incl. children and elderly), and take some as slaves?
Gnolls seemed to work at the time, but don't seem to fit the Gronzi location. None of the Underdark creatures seem to apply, nor Stone Giants. Hobgoblins might, but that might imply a far greater presence of numbers in the Forest than the GM may want. Ogres are a possibility, but I'm unsure of their suitability in the region (I have no resources with which to work).
Thank you very much to any and all who reply. All advice is appreciated.
Regards, Link.
