skald and savage intuition

Scarab Sages

so my friend was playing a skald and he wanted to use this rage power
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/barbarian/rage-powers/paizo-ra ge-powers/savage-intuition/ we thought it would work because it was on the skalds rage powers list in hero lab. However when the dm saw this, he said it wasn't legal because the skalds song takes a standard action to use. Is this true?

Dot.

I'm guessing that it isn't legal because it requires rounds of rage to use rather than because the song takes a standard action, but I defer to more experienced skald players/GMs.

I always thought that the skalds song and the rage were considered the same thing

Rage Powers (Ex)

At 3rd level and every 3 levels thereafter, a skald learns a rage power that affects the skald and any allies under the influence of his inspired rage. This cannot be a rage power that requires the creature to spend a standard action or rounds of rage to activate it. For example, the skald cannot choose terrifying howl (which requires a standard action to activate), but can choose knockback (which is made in place of a melee attack).
...

Does Savage Intuition take a standard action to activate? No.

Does Savage Intuition spend rounds of rage to activate it? Not quite. It activates the Inspired Rage raging song, and the raging song takes a round of rage. In comparison, most rage powers that work only while raging also take the round of raging, too. The cost of a round of raging song is indirect.

Evilrooster's friend's GM made a houserule by GM fiat that skalds cannot use Savage Intuition with Inspired Rage. His statement about a standard action is not a rules-as-written reason that Savage Intuition would not work. Rather, it is the metagame reason for which he invented the houserule.

A barbarian's rage takes a free action to activate. Savage Intuition replacing this with a non-action lets the barbarian activate rage when it is not his turn. Savage Intuition is a pretty minor improvement, because the Strength bonus and most rage powers don't help at times other than the barbarian's turn.

However, a skald's raging song takes a standard action to activate (reduced to a move action at 7th level and a swift action at 13th level). Savage Intuition replacing this with a non-action saves the pre-7th-level skald an entire standard action. He could use that standard action for other activities, such as attacking! That is a big benefit. The GM decided that this changed Savage Intuition too much, and he banned it for skalds.

This is exactly why he took it, by the way he's a wyrmling singer so its not a bonus to stats but a bonus to attack and damage that starts at plus 2
