is there a 'butler' follower anywhere?

Pathfinder Society

So say I've got 16 Cha, so I can haz up to 3 follower vanities.

1 a porter to carry around camping gear and ropes and treasure and such.

2 a herald because it seems like a good idea. maaaybe. I could just announce myself, probably while waving a sword around and spearing some cocktail wieners on the end of it. That seems like more fun

3 a ... what? I want someone to cook meals and keep my clothes and armor clean and mended. maybe to go scrounging for firewood when called for.

So...that seems like a butler or a maid or a what-have-you. Is there such a follower vanity? And if not...why not?

The followers I know of are:
Chronicler, Foreign Contact, Guide, Herald, Hunter, Lookout, Porter, Scholar, Seneschal, & Squire. There's also common boons for Soothsayer or Physician.

I use the porter vanity as a lady’s maid for one of my chatacters. She carries stuff and mixes drinks among other things. Local GMs have been good with this bit of fluff since it has no mechanical impact.

4/5 ****

There is a boon for a personal fixer who can gather some supplies for you.

I dunno, I just have a hard time imagining a porter willing to do butlery things like cooking or cleaning clothes. Then again, I have a hard time imagining a butler wanting to crawl through a dungeon. Maybe I should invest in some sort of 'butler-robot', like a homonculus or something.

Hmm. I suppose I could just use an unseen servant spell. That seems like such a hassle though.

If you can afford the feats, you could always get yourself a Valet familiar. My non-PFS alchemist, Eddie Corkbiter, has a valet monkey. Whenever he makes a mess, he looks at the team and says, "Eh, I have a monkey for that," and sends the monkey off to clean up.

It's become a running joke in my home game.

seneschal would be as close to a butler as I think you could get

Alright, let's look at your other Vanity options.

I think that Tallow is right. Seneschal looks very appropriate, even if they are tied to a property. If you look at them, they look very much like a butler. If you tie one to a Caravan vanity, you could even possibly argue that you could have a traveling Seneschal.

Seneschal Vanity wrote:

This dedicated servant keeps your affairs in order when you are away from home, ensuring that your porperty is maintained, your correspondence is kept up to date, and so on.

While you are present, the seneschal tends to your wounds, assists you in preparing for future adventures, and ensures that you may focus on your duties as a Pathfinder instead of the day-to-day business of keeping your property.
When you rest at your home, you automatically heal as if under long-term care using the Heal skill.
In order to gain the service of such an individual, however, you must own property or a business, either in Absalom or elsewhere.
You may retain the services of one seneschal per property--senechals do not count against the normal maximum number of followers you can retain at a time.

However... If you are worried that some GMs might reject your Seneschal, have you thought about having a good old fashioned squire?

Squire Vanity wrote:

This attendant assist you with handling your mount while you are indoors or otherwise unmounted, and provides assistance with donning and removing armor when not in battle. She may have ambitions of one day following in your footsteps, but currently receives satisfaction simply knowing that she aids you in your adventures.

With a squire, you need not worry about purchasing or paying for a mount's food or stabling.

It may be that your character has neither armor nor a mount to worry about. Still, if you look at the historical duties of squires, most of them spent some time serving at banquets and other dinners in the castle. As a result, I think that most GMs would certainly allow one to straighten out your stuff and pour your wine.

Hmm

This sounds more like the squire vanity that HMM posted above, if you want them to go adventuring with you.

hmm, here's a thought.

a) buy a donkey. They can carry just as much as a porter (same stats as a pony, pony is listed as light load 100 lbs, heavy load 300 lbs) (okay, -15 lbs for a pack saddle), they move at 30 ft/round when encumbered (if that matters), and they're not going to go nuts when entering a dungeon (source: UE).

b) get a squire follower to handle the donkey when I'm unmounted (which will be all the time). Plus I don't have to worry about donkey chow.

So that handles everything except for extreme environments where it might be pricey for my donkey/squire combo to follow.

That even changes the price of a porter from 5 PP to 4 PP, 8 gp. Not bad for 1 PP, eh?

And if you need a bunch of fresh meat quick to feed a hungry monster...

donkey meat...
only costs 8 gp to replace. (Does the mean you are going to name the Donkey "Meat"?

O.O

I actually did this too!

Except for me, it was a mule and a barrel of beer. And she reached up and pulled the (dead) mule thru the manhole in chunks - followed by the (now empty) barrel... while I explained to any passers by "move along - nothing to see here!"

and yes, I spent the PP to make her a "Foreign Contact"!

Too late. I have a dwarf who calls his mule "ER" (Emergency Rations) and another character (who is a bit biased against house Thrune) with one named "Her Infernal Mulitrix Cabbagegail, Sixth of her name".
