How common folk react to winged humanoids in Golarion?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Sorry, if that topic was already discussed, but i'm found nothing. I want advice how to handle winged PC in Golarion. How people would react to wings on character back depending from their origin. PC in question is tiefling with bird-like wings and lion-like tail, but without anything scary like horns or talons, so she doesn't look like 'standard' tiefling at all. Would like to hear any ideas, because i'm new to Golarion and played just a few times before.

It would almost certainly depend on the character. In a good nations like Andoran or Lastwall, she may be misconstrued as some form of angel or aasimar, which would bring special treatment until her fiendish nature was exposed. In Cheliax, due to the presence of strix, she may be seen as one, even if she looks nothing like one, and arrested or attacked.

Given the relative racial diversity of Golarion as a whole, most common-folk would likely assume the character was somehow supernatural (for e.g., they were an angel or angel-descended) and make assumptions based on local tradition, but beyond that no general reaction. As Simeon pointed out, this largely depends on where. In Cheliax, they might get a lot of hate because of similarity to a Strix, and depending on where they were, nobody might have actually seen a Strix and thus be able to make the distinction. In Ustalav you'd get weird looks...but so does everyone in a country where a healthy dallop of terror-induced paranoia is the norm. More free-form places like Andoran, Absalom, or the River Kingdoms wouldn't give a fig. They'd make some weird assumption, then immediately dismiss it in favor of "but will they pay for my drink if i ask?" In Katapesh, that character might be targeted by slavers for looking exotic.

In some places in Tian Xia, some people would be confused by the mere suggestion that this is even unusual to begin with, that land being so inundated with outsiders and other supernatural influences even on the rural level.

Reaction, like real estate, is all about location, location, location.

I’d bet that inns have it rough, though, with all that cleaning up.

winged tiefling is unable to fly anyway......

yeah as as simeon said lastwall would give you special treatment until that was exposed but before it was during said time tehy would want you to stay as long as they thought you were one. That also said Andoran and LAstwall both would not be to likely to kill you fir it either.

Cheliax would yes attack or arrest, they also might enslave said pc too. you would also be treated like dirt by someone who knew what a strix looked like due to tieflings being treated like second rate citizens.

Mendev would kill you outright though, they would call you a spy and burn you at the stake.

Katapesh would enslave just about any species if said pc or npc was exotic, beautiful, strong enough to warrant the attempt to do so. aasimar are also on this list.

Taldor would shun you outright, they wont harm you though and those that would want to sleep with you are looking for a one night stand so they can spend it close to sin and not be at risk or something like that.

Galt... say hello to the final blade

river kingdoms, might not care.

Varisia: might look at you with suspicion. the shoanti might killl you as a bad omen

iirc some tribe in the mwangi expanse considers tieflings as a bad omen and tends to kill their own when they show up.

Qadara ( never can spell it from memory) doesnt trust tieflings and will arrest or enslave you( and possibly kill your pc) they dont like geiniekin either but they adore aasimar.( so if your tiefling is there do yoruself a favor and create a backstory as to why your wings dont work and look and act like an assimar

Druma is all about profit and wont care as long as you dont cause trouble and disrupt buisiness

Molthune....well I dont know they might see you as an asset if yo could fly on your own power....

Nidal....well I hate nidal.

Kyonin you like anyone else will not get past the port city

tian would brush you off as ircc the main tiefling they would see is the oni-blooded one. unless they have been to cheliax OR have seen one in port , ran into one elsewhere

of course though I might not be all that accurate so do take me with a grain of salt or two grains.... though a stick of cinnamon would do better....
