Shadow Absalom: City or Station?

General Discussion

Think about it: The shadow plane is a reflection of the material. Many sites have their shadowy counterpart (roughly?) in the same place, be it twisted to ruin.. Ruled by kyton or other denizens of the shadow, or otherwise less pleasant than their true counterparts. Now, I've long wondered what sorts of things reside there in Pathfinder alone (like if there are an equivalent to the Outer Gods or Great Old Ones that reside in the inky blank void of that plane), but Starfinder raises questions of its own. So, as the title: Shadow Absalom: Is the city still in the plane, meaning that there is the reflection of Golarion left behind, or in its place do we have a shadowy space station? How do you think the Shadow Plane is doing post-Gap? What might the reflections be like of various locations already known to us in the material plane?

Shadow plane is a reflection of the Prime. The prime has Absalom station. So would the shadow.

Golarion is not still in the system. It is by best guess not even still in our reality. The gods have confirmed it still exists and the descendants of the inhabitants are alive and well but it cannot be reached by technology or magic.

So there is no Golarion in the prime to mimic in the shadow.

ZOMG, Shadow Absalom is an awesome idea.

You make a good point there, but that does mean that two planets disappeared, not just one.

Now, there is something of visualization here. These are two different planes of existence, with different denizens and slightly different locations.

Lets say there is a house, there very well may be a ruined version of it in the shadow plane.

Alright, lets look back then. Two people are standing in the same spot, one is watching a house being built in the material plane, the other is watching where the reflection would be. What does the one in the shadow plane see?

Does a separate group in the shadow plane build the house in about the same spot and have it in a ruined state, or.. do they see the bricks coming out of the aether.. suddenly assembling a house? Does the house not exist at one point and then suddenly does but as if it was already run down?

I get that it is a reflection, but to what level of detail and by what method is that perverse mirror maintained? Im not going to assume Rovagug's prison had a reflection, with a shadowy rovagug sitting in it. Of course..what planet did ZK's domain reside?

Am I just thinking too much about this?

There's a lot of fun to be had with those ambiguities. Suppose Shadow Golarion is still there, and Shadow Absalom Station is orbiting it? That's potential source of information about really happened in the Gap, sin't it? Suppose what's inverted in the Shadow realm also inverted the decision to shroud Golarion in the gap? That would mean a serious divergence. What would happen in that case? What if the Shadow and its origin are out of sequence? Tons of story possibilities right there.

If I had to make an Occam's Razor guess, Golarion's departure probably left Shadow Golarion adrift, no longer connected to its Prime Material basis. It probably dissolved back into the broader Shadow Plane shortly thereafter. You might well be able to get some hints about Gap events by investigating the drifting fragments of Shadow Golarion, but this isn't fundamentally different than all the other ways people poke at the edges of the Gap.

Good point.
