We all know space is black. For the sake of those of us who print out scenarios, can you please not include black space backgrounds for starships and starship battle maps?
I know they look pretty cool in black on the .pdf, so maybe you could keep the artistic maps and then provide a second print-friendly map as an appendix?

You could just skip printing that page?
That works when the map is a full page or is just included at the end of the scenario, but when the map is included with text, you cannot just skip printing the page. To be fair, this isn't just a Starfinder issue as some PFS scenarios experience the same issue, especially when using MapPack cards.

I can't speak to PFS, but every starship combat map so far in a scenerio designed for OP(Quests, 1-00, 1-03, 1-04) has been on an independent page. I don't know that 4 is a big enough sample size to say that it's an active design choice, but it appears to me like it is.

Just as a heads up, I suspect the current starfield flip-mat will be used in the scenarios for the foreseeable future. I've requested that we start investigating the potential for new starfield flip-mats, but this might be awhile.
Given that, the best solution would be to pick-up Flip-Mat: Basic Starfield, just because it will see use in pretty much all of our starship combat encounters. If that's not an option, you can always create your own printed hex-grid that uses a white background. My intent for starship combat is just to put notation markers for terrain / odd effects on the map (like what we did in #1-04.)
As for space backgrounds on starship interior maps, I'll see what we can do on that front!
