SL2 Fly spell in Space?

Rules Questions

Cast with a L2 spell slot, Fly allows you to move yourself up or down, so in space where there is no objective up or down, would you be allowed to use this spell to move any direction you want?

I would say yes, but I'd possibly restrict the movement to straight lines each turn. Tell me your thoughts.

Ignoring physics (which is reasonable, since it's magic) then yes, I'd rule the same way.

Of course, given the much larger distances you're likely to encounter in space, the best I could see that doing is pushing you in the right direction, so that you can float back to your ship/space station.

I'd say that in the absence of gravity, when you cast the spell, you get to pick one "down" direction. That way the spell isn't markedly more flexible than when cast under gravity.

This is a fair question that isn't really addressed by the rules that well.

Considering that flight is fairly easy to obtain in this game (jet packs) I would probably let the level 2 version of the fly spell move you in any direction in space.

As a GM (so this is not official), I'd allow you to pick any single axis. You can move up and down that axis. So yes you can go "anywhere" but only back-and-forth in a straight line.

Would you allow a player to designate a point (like the hatch he was just blasted out of) as "down" and use the L2 Fly spell to return?
