Saw this at a screening last night. It was fun. I don't think that there's as much action as the first one but the action that's in it especially the last half is HUGE. It's a pretty lean movie, the official run time is two hours but it felt like and hour and a half.
I had one or two issues with the movie but nothing that curtailed my enjoyment of it.

What issues did you have?
Have you seen the movie? Because I'm not a big fan of spoilering when people haven't seen a thing whether they care about spoilers or not.
I'd put a hint of one of the things in spoiler tags but the option for the instruction to do spoiler tags hasn't worked for me since Paizo redid their site...

This felt like they had a plot for a Jaeger Pilot Academy miniseries and about 1.5 movies' worth of story...
I enjoyed it, in balance, but it's definitely flawed. Much like the original.
My chief beefs:
Mako's around for like, five minutes before being shuffled off. Probably to avoid the awkwardness of Jake never even being a glimmer in a scriptwriter's eye in the first one.
The "kaiju are converging on Mt Fuji as their actual goal" is absolutely ludicrous in light of their actions in the first film- if all kaiju emerged from a single point (they did) and yet somehow ended up in California or trying to stomp Anchorage, then Mount Fuji was presumably not their destination. Moreover... there are SO MANY volcanoes to choose from in the Pacific, some of which have no human around them to get in the way? This was just dumb. I forgive it, because it's not like the original plan was any smarter, but... yeah.
If the cadets are characters, we need to spend more time with them. If they're not, we need to spend LESS time with them.
The good stuff:
Obsidian Fury fight scenes.
Saber Athena.
Our leading man's humor delivery felt consistent... and, given the cheeseball nature of the script as a whole, it didn't feel jarring or out of place.
