Adding Skill "Ranks" to Ship AC & TL?

Is this literally just the number of ranks you put into a skill with your skill points, or does it include the bonuses on that skill?

If the former, you're capped by your level, if the latter, you can benefit from the bonuses from Favored Class, Ace Pilot, Dexterity, etc.

Ranks is specific term. If they meant total bonus they would wrote add your Piloting skill bonus.

Thanks. That was my interpretation as well, but I was hoping I'd missed something. I've got a +19 in Piloting for a campaign starting at L5, and I only get to add +5 of that to my ship's AC.

If you added +19 to the AC than your ship would never get hit. The ranks idea is a good one for space combat.
