Pre Gen Characters & Skills

I was looking at using some of the pregen characters in a campaign as npcs. I looked at the level mystic and it shows a +9 in the mysticism skill, since you can only have 1 rank at level 1, I don't understand where the other +8 is coming from. All of the pregen characters have some really high skills, and I'm not sure why. Can anyone let me know what I'm missing?

I think the math is like this:

WIS +4
Priest +1
Level +1
Class skill w/ level +3
= +9

[I was stumped myself until I read the Priest bonuses.]

Oh, thanks that helps. I totally missed the part in the book about the bonus to class skills!
