Do weapon fusions change a weapon's category?

Rules Questions

I'm wondering if elemental damage weapon fusions allow weapons to be used with various Soldier gear boosts that interact with specific elemental gear types.
Example: I have a Longsword. I put the frost fusion on said Longsword. No other modifications are being applied to this Longsword. Am I now able to use this Longsword in conjunction with the Soldier's Flash Freeze gear boost?

You can't. It does cold damage, but is not in the cryo category.

Unfortunately, no. A fusion does not change the weapon category for the soldier's Gear Boost feature.

However, adding Corrosive, Flaming, Frost, Shock, or Thundering would allow a weapon to qualify for other fusions that would not otherwise be possible: Burst (on a projectile weapon other than the acid dart rifle), Deafening (on an arc pistol with the Thundering fusion), Entangling (on a flame weapon, laser weapon, plasma weapon, etc. with the Frost fusion).

That's disappointing. Seems like a bit of hole in the planning maybe? On the other hand, maybe that would have made the Arcane Assailant too good?
Ah well. Good to know that fusions can be used to open up weapons for other fusions that they wouldn't have normally had access to.
Thanks for clearing this up!

It's intentional.

A longsword that magically does cold damage still swings and fights like a longsword. It lacks the universal idiosyncrasies of true cry weapons.
