Problem purchasing backordered TPK Starfinder spell cards

I recently attempted to purchase the Print/PDF bundles for the two sets of spell cards on this page, but some unexpected things happened at that time.

For each of these two items, I saw in my shopping cart the message "This product is a backorder. Will be added to your My Downloads Page when your order ships." So far, no problem.

When I clicked on "Proceed to Checkout", I saw the "3 Payment Method" button, which I have learned to see as a clue that I don't have those items set to ship with my subscriptions. So I clicked on the "2 Shipping" button to correct the shipping details. One unusual thing I saw was on the next page that came up was "(An item isn't being displayed here because it's a surprise.)" for each of the two items.

Anyway, I went ahead and changed the shipping details from "Ship It" to "Sidecart It". I then saw "0 items will be shipped with the earliest possible subscription shipment." with each item (not good), and the "3 Payment Method" button was still there -- but shouldn't that button have gone away since nothing is being sent to me immediately? It appears that I would be charged immediately if I completed the transaction, even though I have no idea if or when the backorder would be completed -- all I would be getting is some unknown "surprise".

Needless to say, I did not complete the transaction, and I won't do so until someone tells me that the glitches in these two items have been cleared up.

Hello David,

It looks like you took the items out of your cart so I can't take a look to see what was going on.

The only time you are charged immediately for an item is with PDFs. They are immediately charged for and added to your My Downloads page when you submit an order. However, when they are part of a physical/digital bundle you will not be charged and the PDFs are not granted until the physical part of the order ships. This is because we do not charge for physical items until they ship out and we don't grant PDFs until they have been charged for. Bundles are a single charge for all of their component parts.

Bundled products also usually list out their component parts as line items, however they usually don't list the PDF component. If you had submitted the order you likely would have seen 2 line items for it on the email confirmation, one would be the bundle itself and the other the physical component. I'll have to ask the tech team to verify but the 'surprise' item was likely the PDF component part. That line is something we added a while back for items we didn't want to spoil by having their titles listed as a line item (mainly the promotional cards for the card game). But it sometimes shows up on orders that have items that don't show up as line items on your end but we need to be able to see on the order on our end.

As for the payment tab I would have to have the item still in your cart to see what was going on with that. It doesn't necessarily mean that ship with subscriptions had not been set as the shipping method (our system sometimes wants a payment method to submit an order even if that payment method would not be used because the item is going to a sidecart). But it could mean that our system didn't think that shipping method was selected, or believed there was a PDF it needed to charge for and grant right away.

Okay, I put these two items back in my shopping cart and got pretty much the same results except that I no longer see the "surprise" text. I left them in place this time.

I did pre-order some Ninja Division miniatures and had everything work as expected for them.

Hello David,

Thank you for letting me know. I am looking at your cart and I see 4 line items, one each for the bundles and one each for the physical items in the bundle. So that looks correct.

I see the shipping method set as "Ship with subscriptions". The physical items are set to go to your sidecart. So that looks correct too.

I am not sure if it is showing you the payment method button still as I see the order in our software and it looks different from what you see on the website. I do see a payment method attached to it but that won't be charged because the item is going to the sidecart. Items in a sidecart can, and often do, have a payment method associated with them, but when they go into a subscription order that is replaced by the subscription payment method. It is not uncommon for the order to want a payment method before it allows the order to be submitted even if the shipping is set to sidecart the items. So even though there is a payment method associated with it that method will not be charged.

I took a look at the miniatures, and everything does look good on them.

Thank you for the heads up. I took a look at the order and I see that the items did go into your sidecart. I don't see a charge or authorization. So it looks like it all went as intended.
