We are going to start WotR soon. My son wants to play summoner. His concept of his eidolon are that it will resemble a griffon. He also said that he wanted to go Archmage as his Mythic Path, not sure how that will work out. Beyond that I'm looking to help him flesh out his character a bit.
Any ideas we could use for character background would be greatly appreciated.
Any suggestions for a similar character to where he's going at this point would probably be helpful too.

Ultimate Campaign has a section on generating a Character Background that's on the PRD. Also, the Wrath of the Righteous Player's Guide is available for free download.

You might want to have him look at the Guardian mythic path too even if he's set on Archmage, as it has more Eidolon abilities and less Familiar specific. In the players guides the best place to start with character background is the campaign trait you're going to choose. The other info gives you an idea of what skills and class archetypes will work well and be needed for the adventure as well as some background info on the area.

Seems perfect for an old character of mine... took monster hunter background trait and made my eldion resemble a succubus (skill heavy since Inwas also a master summoner ended up a backup caster getting to +15 UMD at 1st level.) The story was he hunted monsters and ended up married to asuccubus without understanding what she was she turned him against his brother and he killed him before realizing with horror what he had done. Changed the eldion's appearence as a permanent reminder and sought redemption.
