I am a rather new GM and after playing through a number of published modules, I am wanting to design an adventure of my own this time. Here is the premise of the adventure I am making which takes place in Varisia.
Some farmers living along the Varisian countryside at the outskirts of Sandpoint have become concerned with an unidentified creature that has been attacking their precious livestock. As the heroes investigate the attacks, they discover that the culprit is the daughter of a well-known merchant family, who was recently afflicted with a rapidly progressing case of ursine lycanthropy (werebearism). Fearing for their daughter and their name, the family offers the adventurers a generous reward if they can help their daughter find a cure to her condition before anyone finds out.
Its very much in the woodworks right now. Here are some other points that I have thought of so far:
- The PCs can decide to seek out a high-level cleric to cure her, perhaps in Korvosa. Normally, lycanthropy can be cured by imbibing oneself with Belladonna, but in this case, due to the danger of the substance and the low likelihood of it actually working if it isn't used fairly quickly, this is not the best option.
- Another option is that it could have been a curse from a witch or some other evil being which can be lifted if said witch is defeated.
- When Marisa first fell under the full moon, she was unable to control her new self and ends up killing her own brother, the body of whom the PCs discover soon after they begin investigating the animal attacks. Marisa's family, hearing of the adventurers investigating her decide to try and win their trust first by inviting them to their home and telling them what was really going on and to ask their help in curing Marisa.
I welcome any and all suggestions to help this adventure end up being fun for me and my players without too many loopholes or discrepencies.
Thanks in advance!
