I am GMing the long travel from Kalsgard to the Rimethirst Mountains, between modules 2 and 3 of Jade Regent.
I have made Ukshakka a more significant NPC than the one she is in the AP. Still, she is reluctant to make all the way to Tian Xia with the caravan because her father died trying to cross the Crown of the World: to succeed where her father failed would dishonor his memory (as stupid that might sound, that's what she feels).
So now I would like to find some reason to make her stay with the caravan, and with Ulf, until Ordu Aganhei. But, I'm pretty short on ideas. I need a plot device, an encounter, something with the Varki tribes in the steppes or some strange monster... A short side quest that should involve all the party, not just "Ukshakka goes to speak with the Varki shaman of that tribe who tells her that succeeding where her father did not is not dishonoring him".
I will be fishing for ideas but any suggestion is very welcome.
Sorry for my bad English.

Galatina, I don't know the nature of her father's death, lacking some detail, but if he died while crossing the Crown of the World, perhaps his body was left in the frozen waste, as people often are during difficult treks in the mountains or at the poles. If one of the other Varki tells her, "I was on that expedition. I know where we buried him under stone and ice." Perhaps she'd be driven to find his body, recover his remains to give HIM the honor of a respectful burial, or a burial among his people. Or perhaps he carried her family's heirloom that he'd promised would fall to her upon his death? And then you could make his burial place somewhere near one of the Book 3 sites that already get visited. Maybe near the North Pole, or one of the Black monoliths. Once she went that far, there's really no turning back alone. She'd need to see the excursion through to Ordu-Aganhei, where she could come back in the open season when the caravan resupplied and returned. ???
