Subschools question

Rules Questions

Hi!

Got a question about subschools. How exactly does it work?

When taking for example the conjuration school, can I use only one subschool like teleportation? Or all of them?

And the second question - where can I find explanation for it?

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic#TOC-Conjuration I've found something like that but it doesn't explain how subschools work at all. How to use it, can I use everything from this list etc.

I think I understand the question, so bear with me.

So, if you're a wizard and you want to cast conjuration spells, you have access to all of the subschools of conjuration. I don't believe there is an explanation on how they work because they all work just like the school as a whole, there are just abilities and such that affect specific subschools rather than the whole school (and those would be specified within the ability itself).

I'm not sure how much that helped, but maybe it'll clear up enough to get to the issue you are having.

You pick your subschools for subschool powers. Those power will tell you the original conjuration school powers they replace. For instance Shift replaces the acid attack power. But otherwise the school remains the same. You can use all conjuration spells in your school slots; subschools merely replace specific powers.

The way it works is:

1. Start with the list of powers for the conjuration school.
2. Pick a subschool. Now modify the list of powers as that school describes.

In theory you might be able to take another subschool, but *only* if it does not modify any of the abilities that the first one modified, and I don't think there are any actual cases like that.

Yup! Follow Seebs steps here.
