Mummy's Mask: Mirage Villain Help

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

So we have been stuck on Base Set Scenario 3, where you have the Mirage Villain that moves where every time you examine or explore it. It says to put it in a random location, which I have seen people just rolling and shuffling it into that location.

My problem is that the Mirage is a villain, and when any other villains escape, you use blessing from the box to make sure it is random. It makes no sense rolling a dice and knowing where the villain is, otherwise why have that mechanic? You don't know if a mirage is a mirage or not in real life, so you shouldn't know where it is going to be either.

The card needed more instructions on it or the rule book needed a ruling for it. (If I missed it I feel stupid but I did look several times.)

So my question is. Do you use blessings from the box to not know where the Mirage is, or do you just roll, and know which location it is in and ignore that location until all others are closed?

Thank you.

You just roll. You'll know which location it it is. The challenge with Mirage as the villain is that you'll need to permanently close all the other locations before you can deal with the Mirage.

Even though you know where Mirage goes, you won't know which card it is in that location. You'll have to make sure you can get through potentially all the cards in the location it goes to. It also might end up in a location that isn't ideal. For example, it might go to a location that you would be good at closing, when you wish it would go to one that you'd be bad at closing (which would be more ideal for the final showdown).

I think what you are missing is that the Mirage doesn't "escape", at least not in the sense of the game's mechanism for the villain escaping. Instead, the power on the Mirage overrides the normal process. It can do that because of the Golden Rule.

If a card and this rulebook are ever in conflict, the card should be considered correct.

The rulebook tells you one thing to do when encountering a villain. Mirage tells you something different. You go with the card.

I hope that helps.

Thank you for the reply. I suppose we were just making it hard on ourselves for no reason, and we came close so many times doing it this way. I guess it's just supposed to be that simple since it is one of the first scenarios.
