DR and Energy Resistance: New scales coming?

Given what we have kinda seen about how weapon damage ramps up as levels increase, I am wondering if DR and Energy Resistance will be the same scale as they were in Pathfinder or will they be higher?

Considering that Weapons Specialization is a partial/counter to both defense types (IIRC) are they even going to remain viable?

Curious to hear others thoughts on this.

Also, off the top of my head, I don't remember seeing any DR or Energy Resistance values posted so far, though I am sure I have missed some photos of product from the cons etc.


i have heard that DR is still a thing, that there is even an infusion for weapons to overcome DR/Good or the like. i assume energy resistance is still at thing too or else energy weapons will be everyone's default due to the lower EAC values.

I do wonder about the scaling since DR or Resist 5 is debilitating at low levels but easy enough to overcome around level 6 and doesnt even slow you dont once you are rolling with 10DX weapons.


They're going to have to be much higher (assuming they stick around with similar mechanics)- since we're dealing with smaller numbers of attacks for much higher damage values- to remain relevant in level appropriate fights. If they don't, they'll pretty much only matter for story purposes (giant monsters with high enough DR/Resistance that the local armed forces can't kill it and need your help, for example).

It's not much to go off of, but the Ksarik in First Contact is CR 4 and can acquire DR 5 or Resistance 20 with its Ingested Adaptation attack. If that's representative of the scaling speed for DR and Resistance in Starfinder, it's likely DR will have less value and you'll want to carry around multiple energy type weapons if you focus on them.

That is what I was thinking as well. Will actual elemental immunity be rarer and the numbers higher?

I read somewhere that the Solarions class energy blade feature max's out at 12d6 at level 20. That will average to about 43 damage not including any other modifiers for applicable stats or specialization or what have you.

If Solarions can make that into elemental damage the the current general max of 30 points in Pathfinder will take a large chunk out per hit but we have seen other weapon examples that do a lot more.
