Alright, so my party has recently captured Tidewater Rock, went to Bloodcove to make nice with the Aspis Consortium after stealing two of their luggers, and are now sandboxing around until they get about a third of the way into Lvl6 when I'll throw Isabella Locke's assault on the Rock at them.
Thing is, I want to mix up the ship encounters a bit because the ones in the book are pretty same-y and I want to avoid boring the party. Current ideas:
--upped the challenge for the Sanbalot by making the captain an Air-kineticist and giving the manticore a ranger-archer rider.
--Jolis Raffles has offered to "sponsor" their effort to get a letter of marque from the Hurricane King if they'll take care of one of the Rampore Isle slavers for him. The ship I have in mind is an armored frigate called Ironroar and its captained by a tiefling Gunslinger/Cleric of Cixyron & a cyclops Gun Tank.
Does anyone have any other ideas for memorable ship fights that don't step on the toes of later awesome encounters like Dyrad's Grave? Thanks for any and all suggestions!

Other ideas:
--aircraft carrier in the form of a warship (or whatever) that has had its barracks & castles converted to be aeries for flying mounts.
--a circle of druids who have crafted a ship from living plants; the ropes are vines and the sails are massive leaves or petals. Much of the crew could consist of fey and plant creatures. Could be a very weird fight or an interesting roleplay opportunity for the party's druid.

A crew of Monstrous Characters, I have a Bugbear Tyrant running a ship around the shackles running raids on villages right now that the PC party haven't encountered yet. Lots of good premade characters in the Monster Codex for it.
I also had a rather low level encounter with a fully Goblin crew of a small ship they stole near the edge of a tributary mouth. My PC's summoned ponies onto their ship and hilarity broke out LOL.
